I personally think that as long as IE 5 & 6 are not patched, thing's won't really get better in the next few years - they'll get worse. Now you have only somewhat arround 10-20% browsing with standards-compliant browsers, if ie 7,8,... start being standards compliant (without ie 5,6 being patched) you will have 50% with standards compliant and 50% with non-standards compliant browsers surfing on the net. @Neal: Yes Linux and MacOS come with pre-installed software too, but none of them has such an overwhelming market share as MS does.
