See Andy Budd and Christian Heilmann talk about “Maintainable JavaScript” and “Who cares about Standards” respectively on 14th of July in London. Cheap as Chips and a good networking opportunity to boot!

The Web Standards Group has successfully held meetings in Australia sharing information about using web standards. Now, Stuart Colville brought the meeting idea over to the small island of England and on the 14th of July you can attend the first London Web Standards Group meeting on the City University campus near Angel Tube station.

The two presentations will be “Who cares about standards” by Andy Budd and “Maintainable JavaScript” by Chris Heilmann.

There’ll be book giveaways by Friends of Ed, and the whole lot will also be available as a Podcast.

This is a good opportunity to meet up the London crowd when you didn’t manage or couldn’t afford to go to @media. The entrance fee of about a fiver really only covers Stuart’s costs and we hope there’ll be a lot more meetings to come.

In case anyone’s wondering, the event starts at 7 PM. Full details at the mini-site.

It’s a bit far for me (5371 miles , 8645 km, or 4668 nautical miles). Will the presentation be live online? If yes, how do we log in? If no, how can we get the podcast?

@Estelle: The podcast will be available on my site after the event, and I’ll also get it added to the main WSG podcast feed over at

I’d just like to point out that England isn’t an island. It’s on an island but isn’t one itself. The island it occupies is also occupied by Wales and Scotland (and some would also say Cornwall).

damn it, i move to london missing all the sydney WSG meets and then when one finally comes to london, i’m in spain.. I’ll be coming to august though!

I can’t read the mini-site, as the font colour is the exact same colour as my default browser background colour! I’d have thought that standards-aware web designers would have remembered that if they define font-colour they also need to set the background colour!

I’m really looking forward to it. :)
