The number of conferences that seem to be appearing these days is incredible – many of them are grass roots efforts to raise awareness of web standards and accessibility in localized areas around the world.

Here’s one of the most recent: an event called the Highland Fling, to be held next week on April 5, 2007 at Symposium Hall, Edinburgh, Scotland. From the Highland Fling web site:

This inaugural Highland Fling conference will cover the topic of progressive enhancement and is designed to make developers aware of both the benefits and pitfalls involved of using such technologies, how to use them, when not to use them, and what the future holds.

The conference is aimed at raising the profile of web development in Scotland and to act as a gateway to some of the leaders and thinkers of the web development industry.

Several WaSP members and Task Force members will be there speaking: Jeremy Keith, Christian Heilmann, James Edwards (brothercake), Andy Clarke and WaSP co-lead Drew McLellan. This looks like a nicely put together event – so by all means, attend! More importantly though? Bring someone else with you – help spread the word to people that aren’t already practicing standards-based techniques and progressive enhancement.

God I’d love to go. Sadly £125 is a little outside my budget at the moment, the pitfalls of going to the other end of the earth for love. Preston isn’t far from Edinburgh really, so maybe I could go up and listen at the door with a glass.

Hi everyone and thanks for the nice write up, it means a lot to me to have your support, there’s not long to go now and folk are getting excited. I for one cannot wait to see what happens on the day!

@Keri: Hop in a car… you know you want to ;-)

Too bad, it’s also out of my budget. :(

Thanks anyway for sharing. :)
